I don’t know how I get sucked into the Pinterest DIY boards. Its pathological. I don’t have a crafty or creative bone in my body, but they draw me in to the land of Pin where I invariably stay for an average of 45 minutes.
I start by thinking “These people are all so clever and creative! Look what they did with that old dresser/door/crib/hunk of trash! Its amazing. Why didn’t I think of that?” This deeply appreciative phase lasts for about 15 minutes.
Next I make a soft transition to “Wow. I could do that. I have an empty picture frame/chicken wire/about 1,000 broken crayons. That doesn’t look too hard.” I dream of the handmade, marvelously insouciant, furniture and accessories brightening up my house passing for “decorating.”
From there its a short trip to “Why do these people have so much time on their hands? Don’t they have jobs? Why would they strip, sand, paint and distress that dresser when it already looked old and shabby?”
45 minutes later I am looking at seasonal recipes. Food I can do. And if its a disaster, at least it goes away. Here is what caught my eye today. Caramel Banana Upside Down Cake. I have made a similar version as a skillet cake but haven’t done it for years. That’s what I’ll do, be frugal by making sure no bananas go to waste.
Happy pinning!
