Saturday night we were out with friends and decided to go to dinner in a busy entertainment district near us. It was 7:00 and everything was hopping when we got to the restaurant we decided on.

The foyer was packed, the bar was packed, the restaurant was full and hostess said it was a 45 minute to an hour wait. In a truly Geek Moment I pulled out my trusty iPhone and logged into an app called Open Table. I use it to make dinner reservations for work all the time, but this was the first time it occurred to me to use it in my personal life.

Sure enough when I logged in this restaurant they had an open reservation for 7:15. I took the table and a moment later I got an email confirmation that it was received whereupon I walked over to the hostess gave her my name and said we had a reservation for 7:15. She immediately grabbed four menus and walked us to our waiting table.

I was inordinately delighted to have gamed the system and scored a table within minutes of walking in. Sometimes its good to be a geek.
